We were asked to carry out a gutter cleaning service at a property in Haywards Heath. On arrival it was clear that certain sections of the guttering had not been cleared for some time. Moss had built up inside the runs and several areas were very blocked, which meant water was not able to move along the gutter as it should.

How we cleared the moss and debris

We worked along the full length of the guttering, removing the moss and accumulated debris by hand and with our cleaning equipment. The blocked sections took the most time, as the build-up had compacted inside the channel. We worked carefully around the edges of the roof and the brackets so the guttering and the surrounding roofline were not disturbed while the material was being taken out.

Water testing and clearing the downpipes

Every gutter clean we carry out includes a water test. Once the runs were clear, we ran water through the guttering and checked that it flowed correctly towards the outlets and down the downpipes. We also clean the downpipes as part of every clean, so any debris sitting inside them was removed as well. This is the part of the job that confirms the whole system is working, not just the guttering itself.

The finished result

With the moss and debris removed and the water test completed, water ran freely along the guttering and down the downpipes without backing up. The main difference was in the sections that had been heavily blocked, which were now clear and doing their job again. We cleared the displaced moss and debris away at the end and left the area tidy.
