Gutter Grids Fitted to Stop Moss Blocking Gutters in Cuckfield

Blocked gutters on a Cuckfield home

We were asked to attend a property in Cuckfield after the owner got in touch about blocked gutters. He had been having trouble with the guttering on the house for a number of years, and it kept coming back to the same problem. Each time it was cleared, it wasn't long before the flow of water was restricted again. We went out to take a look and clear what was there.

Why moss kept getting into the system

The cause was moss washing off the roof and collecting in the guttering. Once it builds up, it holds water and stops the gutters doing their job properly. Clearing it out solves the problem at the time, but it doesn't stop the same thing happening again the following season. We talked the job through with the owner and explained the options for stopping the moss from getting into the system in the first place.

Fitting gutter grids in Cuckfield

We suggested fitting gutter grids as a longer-term solution. We find these work better than hedgehog-style brushes because they let the water pass through freely while keeping the moss and larger debris out of the channel. That means the gutters keep flowing and there's far less chance of them blocking up with moss again. The grids were fitted along the run of guttering once it had been cleared.

A cleaner, more reliable gutter run

With the gutters cleared and the grids in place, the moss should now stay out of the system rather than collecting in the channel. Water can run away as it should, and the owner shouldn't be facing the same blocked gutters year after year. It's a straightforward job that makes a real difference on a property with this much moss coming off the roof. If your gutters in Cuckfield or the surrounding area keep blocking up, it's worth looking at the cause rather than just clearing them each time.
