This job was a roof clean at a property in Brighton and Hove, carried out by hand rather than with a pressure washer. Working by hand lets us clean the roof surface carefully without forcing water into places it should not go. We also cleared the gutters and the downpipes while we were up there, so the whole rainwater system was dealt with in the same visit.

Clearing the gutters and downpipes

The gutters had collected the usual mix of moss, grit and debris that builds up on a roof over time. We cleared this out by hand and flushed the downpipes through to make sure they were running freely. Blocked gutters and downpipes are one of the main causes of damp and overflow problems, so it is worth keeping on top of them.

Applying the antifungal treatment

Once the roof had been cleaned, we applied an antifungal biocide across the surface. This is not a seal or a coating, it is a treatment that works on the organic growth that causes moss and algae to return. It carries on working after we have packed up and left, which is why we apply it as a final step rather than at the start.

A cleaner roof and free-flowing gutters

By the time we finished, the roof was clear of the built-up moss and debris, and the gutters and downpipes were running as they should. The antifungal treatment will help slow the return of moss and algae over the coming months.
